Hawkwell's winning streak continues in the Open Second division
A busy week of SDBA action with ten matches taking place in total!
Hawkwell made it seven wins out of seven in their top of the table tussle with SLH Raleigh Seconds in the Open Second division. Gavin Lewis and Russell Dobson secured a perfect three rubbers for the Hawks with Keith Wood and Jamie Cole getting a brace to seal a 5-4 win. Mike Gardner and Will Chan won two rubbers for SLH while Tom Negus and Alex Marcus, and Mike Smith and Debin Tom. Second placed Hawkwell are now a point behind SLH Seconds but have two matches in hand.
In the division above, Fitzwimarc Seconds won 7-2 at Blenheim. Natalie Smith and Paula Anderson notched a hat-trick and were supported by doubles from Gary Curtis and Sathish Kumar Natarajan, and Roger Jones and Sean Tierney. Brodie Beaven and Tom Poulson helped Blenheim to their two rubbers. Fitz remain in third while Blenheim stay in fifth place.
In the Open Premier, Leighway won 8-1 away at Westcliff Seconds. Nathan Burrell and Jinu Jacob, and Michael Clark and Danny Peach both secured hat-tricks with the former not dropping a game. Paul Kirby and Craig Mack got the other two rubbers to help Leighway to their second victory of the season. Phil Crabtree and Russell Blunt got the point for Westcliff who remain winless at the bottom.
Fitzwimarc made it four wins out of five in the Mixed Premier with a 7-2 triumph against Phoenix Flames. Paula Anderson and Paul Chaplin won a perfect hat-trick, with Chloe Baker and Phil Tuffee, and Zak Pryor and Rebecca Terry getting two rubbers each. Holly Hoswell-Sims and Jay Clark helped the Flames to their two points as they suffered their fifth defeat of the season.
In the division below, champions Phoenix Flames Seconds completed an unbeaten season with an 8-1 victory of third placed SLH Rayleigh. Four of the nine rubbers went the distance though as the title winners were pushed close but Tim Baskett and Tracey Haylett, and Mandie Breed and Humaid Ghori both got three rubbers each while Joeal Tony and Sara Thompson won two. Joe Garnett and Caroline Fletcher secured the point for SLH.
Eastwood and Hawkwell met each other both home and away in the space of three days in the Mixed First division with each team getting a 5-4 win. The first saw Eastwood triumph away at Hawkwell. Dawn Muggleton and Martin Rainbow, and Lorene Roberts and John Kindred both won braces while Debbie Moon and Adrian Watling got the other rubber to secure the win overall. Tim and Hannah Rainbow picked up a hat-trick for the Hawks with Caroline Trace and Chris Hagon getting the other.
The Hawks then got revenge as they won 5-4 away at Eastwood. Tim and Hannah secured another three rubbers and didn’t drop a game, while Keith Wood and Heidi Paine won two rubbers to help secure the win. Laura Whiteman and Adrian Watling notched a double for the home side with Martin Rainbow and Dawn Muggleton, and Lorene Roberts and Paul Barber getting a rubber each. Hawkwell stay in fourth, seven points above Eastwood who have played one match less.
Fitzwimarc Thirds continued their good form in the Combi First division as they recorded their third win in a row by beating Phoenix Flames Fourths 5-1. Andrew Millham and Matthew Pavyer both recorded hat-tricks with Clare Burrell and Abi Campbell getting two rubbers each. Jill Beaver and Jo Howard-Simpson grabbed the point for Phoenix Fourths.
In the Ladies First division, B & BP edged out SLH Rayleigh to record a 4-2 victory. Four of the six rubbers went to three, as Emma Potter, Liz Cullen, Tamsin Collinge and Carla Baylis-Mcdonagh all bagged a brace each. Jan Watt, Caroline Fletcher, Sam Cooper and Judy Slater each won a single rubber for SLH. B & BP remain second while SLH move up to third.
Finally, in the Masters Premier, Phoenix Flames Fourths finished their campaign on a high as they recorded a first win of the season by beating Eastwood 4-2. John Marshall secured a hat-trick for Phoenix with Gary Rose and Jo Howard-Simpson winning two rubbers each. Laura Whiteman helped Eastwood to their two points. Phoenix Fourths move up to seventh while Eastwood stay bottom.
All the matches above were played between 3rd and 9th March.
Player of the Week: Paula Anderson - Fitz have been just one of two sides to utilise the new Open criteria and Paula took full advantage as she won a hat-trick with Natalie Smith, and also got another three rubbers in the Mixed Premier for a perfect week.
Team of the Week: Phoenix Fourths (Masters) - in their final match of the season, and after several narrow losses this campaign, Phoenix Fourths claimed their first victory of the season against Eastwood in the Masters Premier. Everyone chipped in with at least one rubber to end the season on a high.
